Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

We have a great group of special needs students at our high school in Long Beach, California. Our mission is to create a safe and calming room for our students so that they are able to learn and enjoy school like everyone else.

Research has shown that sensory rooms promote a calming effect that reduces sensory overload and anxiety for students with disabilities.

Often times, anxiety leads to challenging behaviors that prevent students from remaining in class, thus taking time away from their education.

It is our hope that this project for beanbag chairs, a trampoline, light filters, and other supplies will provide additional support for our special needs students, reducing anxiety and allowing them to benefit more from their learning environment. In the process of creating this calming space, we are in need of sensory-friendly equipment and materials. Your donation will help us create this calming space for our students.
