This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

The specific items I’m requesting will make a significant difference in my students' learning by providing a dedicated space where they can self-regulate, refocus, and manage their emotions effectively. The iPad Pro will serve as a powerful tool for mindfulness apps, guided breathing exercises, and calming activities that help my students develop self-regulation skills. The Big Joe bean bag chair will offer a comfortable and inviting seating option, allowing my students to feel safe and relaxed while they process their emotions. The Calm Down Corner Kit will provide essential sensory tools, visual supports, and strategies to help my students identify their feelings and choose appropriate coping mechanisms. By having these resources in place, my students will be better equipped to handle stress and frustration, leading to improved focus, engagement, and overall academic success.

The primary goal of this project is to create a supportive environment where my students can develop emotional intelligence and coping skills that will benefit them both in and out of the classroom.

By integrating a calming corner into our learning space, I aim to help my students recognize and regulate their emotions, reduce classroom disruptions, and improve their ability to stay engaged in learning. This project will empower students with strategies they can carry with them beyond second grade, fostering lifelong emotional resilience.

What makes my students special is their incredible curiosity, resilience, and kindness. They come from diverse backgrounds and bring unique strengths and challenges to the classroom. Many of my students are still developing their emotional regulation skills, and having a designated space to practice mindfulness and self-soothing will make a world of difference in their learning experience. By supporting this project, you are helping create a nurturing environment where every child feels valued, understood, and ready to learn.
