My Project

Our students often deal with a variety of pressures, from academic stress to personal struggles, which can affect their mental health.

Please support our school community with resources to create a calming and soothing environment in our inner city school.

By incorporating sensory items, fidgets, snacks, and comfy seating like a bean bag chair, the social worker’s office can become a safe space for students to unwind and regain a sense of calm.

A comfy bean bag chair provides a comfortable, inviting spot for students to sit and relax. For students who may feel overwhelmed or anxious, having a cozy, nonjudgmental space can make a difference in how they engage with therapeutic process.

Fidget toys and sensory items offer students tools to manage anxiety and restlessness. These items, such as stress balls, sensory toys, allow students to channel their nervous energy in a constructive way. These objects can serve as grounding mechanism, helping students focus, calm their nerves, or simply express their emotions without feeling the need to verbalize them. These simple yet effective items support emotional regulation, especially important for students in a high-stress environment.

Healthy snacks can also contribute to a calming environment. Food is often a source of comfort, and in many cases, students may not have access to regular meals outside of school hours. By providing snacks, social workers not only meet the basic needs but also create a nurturing environment where students can feel cared for.

Together, these elements create an atmosphere of support that allows students to relax and engage in the process of emotional healing.

The environment encourages students to take the time they need to work through their feelings, without feeling rushed or judged. In the context of an inner-city school where students might face unique challenges, these sensory elements can provide a much-needed sense of safety, stability, and reassurance.
