My Project

We are working hard to create an environment where all students feel supported, engaged, and empowered to learn. One area that could significantly enhance our classroom experience is the addition of comfortable, flexible seating options for our classroom library and a designated calm-down area.

The flexible seating options and calming area I’m requesting will profoundly impact my students’ ability to engage with their learning and manage their emotions.

The comfortable seating options, like bean bags, and a sensory tent, will allow my students to choose a seat that best fits their sensory and physical needs.

For many of my students, traditional seating can be uncomfortable or distracting, but flexible seating will allow them to find a spot that helps them focus, whether they’re reading, working on individual tasks, or participating in group activities. This choice promotes independence, and ownership of their learning environment, and a calming area will provide a space for students to regulate their emotions. Many of my students experience sensory overload or emotional challenges, and having a designated quiet space with soft, cozy seating will help them self-regulate, calm down, and return to their work feeling refreshed. This area will also help students learn important social-emotional skills, such as recognizing when they need a break and taking proactive steps to manage their emotions, which will ultimately improve their focus, learning, and overall well-being.

Foster independence by allowing students to make choices about where and how they work, empowering them to take ownership of their learning.

Support social-emotional growth by providing a designated space for students to calm down and regulate their emotions, which will help them return to learning with a clear, focused mind. Creating a sense of safety and belonging by offering a comforting environment that makes students feel secure and valued in their learning space.
