Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My students all have Special Education Individual Learning Plans in a small urban school with a focus a lot on building community with our students through daily social emotional learning activities. We strive to make spaces for our students that allows for their own check in and reflection on their social emotional status and to work to find successful solutions when having difficult days. The items requested will help with creating a comfortable learning environment where students can choose to work alone or in small groups on the floor with the lap desk. During circle or when feeling especially emotional, we will be excited to have the Henry the Weighted Husky to support our students in such a loving way. Or, the students can choose to work on a collaborative activity such as putting the 500-piece jigsaw puzzle together. We often allow time for coloring in coloring books geared to teens that help alleviate stress or quiet the "noise" of potentially negative thoughts. We worked to find materials that appeal to all of our students that was not discriminatory and could peaked their interest such as a coloring book with an anime theme. We are excited to have this opportunity to provide these safe spaces and community centered learning environments for our students through the funding of these requested materials.
