Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

This year I will have four students who are on the Autism Spectrum. They will be integrated into a class of 16 general education students. These 4 students have different needs in order to be active participants which can not be met without specific resources.

These students have sensory needs and require strong visual cues in order to learn.

They are very good participants in the classroom when their specific needs are met and can learn just as well as any other student. The students attend a public school in New York.

My Project

I am requesting light covers which will dim the lights in the room to create a calm environment free of external stimuli. Additionally I am requesting various time keepers. These timers help students on the spectrum transition easily from one activity to the next and help them regulate themselves during activities. The less noise headphones and study corrals help reduce external stimuli so students can focus on their work with out being distracted.

These tools will help all the students in my class be functional learners and help to create a calm environment so all my students can learn together.

Children on the spectrum are known to succeed in regular education classrooms when the resources they needs are available to them.
