My Students

One way my students love to learn is through reading and sharing.

My students continue to develop their love of reading and their ability to orally share what they are learning. Their confidence with participating in discussions is growing and leading them to develop a better understanding of the concepts being taught in class as native and non-native English speakers.

My students are enthusiastic fifth graders who are excited for their final year in elementary school. They are well behaved and highly motivated to learn. Their positive attitude enables them to be hard workers and focused. My class is made up of 30% English Language Learners, which has me using various teaching methods to help them improve in the English language along with the other fifth grade standards, including the Common Core. We still lack basic school supplies, furniture, and equipment, but it doesn't deter my students from being academically successful.

My Project

I am in the process of implementing flexible seating in the new school year. My students need a Multi-Media Work Center to share and view lessons from all around the classroom, and to keep the technology equipment safe. My students also need a Room Divider Library Mobile Shelf to safely display mentor texts. Having my Multi-media Work Center will allow me to move the cart around the classroom while displaying lessons or videos on the screen from my document camera on my cart instead of it being in a stationary location. This allows space for my students to come up to the Work Center to work out problems and share their ideas. The Room Divider Library Shelf will be used to safely display our mentor texts, which are mostly picture books. While the students love looking at these books, they aren't conveniently displayed in our current bookshelves, which are currently smaller to hold novels, or chapter books.

Reading and sharing with one another are just a couple of exciting activities my students love to engage in.

My students have become active readers, as well as excellent listeners and speakers. They will deeply appreciate having a place to store and display these mentor texts and a mobile cart to move around the room, making viewing and sharing easier.
