My Students

Students who make, make a difference. I work within a library that is striving to incorporate a makerspace where students can dive into their passions, learn through mistakes, and access materials that inspire curiosity. My goal is to give students the opportunity to be passionate.

I work in a public elementary school serving approximately 350 students in grades PK-5th grade.

My students come from a wide range of cultures and socioeconomic backgrounds. They are curious and passionate about new learning experiences. They love to investigate, and they learn best through active exploration of their interests. I teach students directly within library and technology classes during the day, but we also have open library times during the day for students who want to come explore the makerspace.

My Project

These materials will be a piece of our library makerspace where students can solve STEM challenges or create and explore freely to pursue their personal interests. The littleBits, Snap Circuits, and Roominate will be used to introduce young students to electric engineering and basic programming. The Amitetrix and K'nex Simple Machines will be used for basic building and structural design instruction and exploration. These materials are meant to inspire students to find their passion, and students will then be matched up with an adult mentor to work with the materials and learn how to utilize their passions in their future.

These donations will allow my students to access a number of materials not readily available to them, and they can safely explore electric circuits, building and design concepts, and basic programming skills.

Students will have the chance to try things they have never done before, have access to community mentors, and hopefully ignite their passions for life. Passionate people impact their community and make a difference. Students need a chance to explore in order to find their passions in life.
