My students are energetic and eager to learn. We are in a high poverty, rural area where high-tech opportunities are few and far between.
The world around us is ever-changing, and the need for them to keep up with that world is at an all time high.
Our students thrive in technology and learn through hands-on learning experiences: creating, tinkering, inventing, exploring, and discovering. These experiences will carry on with them through their adult lives as they learn useful skills.
My Project
While it may vary from one person to the next, most would agree that one of the main missions of the library has always been to make resources and materials accessible to all. Traditionally, these resources were print materials like books, periodicals, and reference materials. Over the last several decades this has expanded to include access to digital resources and tools, like computers with internet access, eBooks, databases, etc. School libraries are evolving again to include tools for creation.
Makerspaces are resources and materials that our students need access to, both for class research and for exploration.
I am requesting makerspace resources including 15 packs of Energizer 3 Volt Watch Batteries, one Osmo Coding Game, a Magnet Tiles Kit, a Deluxe Building Set, a Marble Genius Marble Run Starter Set, and a Tripod with a Bluetooth Shutter Remote for Apple iPad. It makes perfect sense for these tools and materials to be made accessible to students in and through the library.
