My Students

A typical day in my class consist of many activities. It's full of reading, writing, exchanging thoughts and opinions, learning mathematical concepts, and understanding the world in which they live in through science and social studies.

My students are extremely inquisitive and have a great desire to learn.

They have a need to work collaboratively and learn from one another. My school is located in the heart of Harlem, New York in an area that has very minimal resources. Most of the students receive free lunch and due to budget cuts, our students do not have access to a school library, interactive materials to enhance learning, and they lack an overall environment to support collaborative learning . This has made it difficult for my students to be able to develop their reading levels and create a space of warmth and independency.

My Project

I am requesting a variety of materials for my students to create an interactive space. Each item selected will support my vision of an environment that allows the students to work independently as well as in groups. The carpet will be used to support our multiple daily meetings. The listening center will assist the students in increasing their overall reading skills (reading rate, fluency, and expression). The two portable air conditioners will aide in cooling the whole classroom during really hot and humid days as well as provide some relief for the high percentage of students suffering from asthma and other respiratory issues. All of the materials including interactive software, laminator, student read along books, and organizational materials will be utilized to support learning and provide an inviting and child friendly environment.

Donations to my class project would improve my class immensely and my students would be elated to interact in a classroom with materials that support their independent learning coupled with their learning collectively.
