Create a Cloud (Weather in a Bottle)

Help me give my students a super fun phenomena to start the air pressure unit. The pressure valves cause high pressure and releasing it causes low pressure and a cloud! Ever notice it's clear with high pressure?

My Project

Can you explain why it is sunny and clear when the weather person says there is a high-pressure region over the area? Or how come a drop in air pressure is a cause of concern? What is air pressure and how does it create weather patterns?

The goal of this project is to have students get curious about what is the main factor in weather.

When the bulb is squeezed, air pressure increases in the bottle. Then the curious student pops the cap and boom a cloud is created. Then we ask some guiding questions such as "What did you do to increase air pressure?" and "What happened to the air pressure when you released the cap?". Then the students are just one step away from connecting air pressure to weather!

I tested this with my daughter, 9 years old, and it really works!
