My Students

My students are excited to start working on their projects. This is their first year of art and they would love to work in watercolors.

Most of my students come from section eight, subsidized housing and own very little.

I'd like to give them the opportunity to work in watercolors, something they've never done before. The teachers at our school are spirited and inculcate learning daily, but are continually challenged by a lack of even the most rudimentary resources.

My Project

These resources will allow my students to work with a medium they'd never get to try otherwise. Watercolors reflect a student's imagination while simultaneously improving control. We will learn about the artist, Wassily Kandinsky, and create a painting in the style of his abstracts.

This painting unit develops imagination and harmony that are absent from my students' lives.

Creativity, control, and the ability to focus on a single project are critical for developing young minds in their otherwise frenetic and chaotic world. Art is not just an end result, but a process.
