Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students come from a wide variety of backgrounds, some are refugees and some have been in this city for generations. All of our students receive free or reduced-price lunch.

Both my students and I walk in every day ready to meet the challenges that we both throw at each other.

They begin each day with their own challenges and baggage. Did they get breakfast? Did their siblings eat and make it to school on time? This is where we meet at 8 o'clock each weekday morning. We then must work through all of this and begin our attempts at learning. My goal every day​ is for us to have a place where the students can leave their baggage at the door and learn something new from each other.

I try to include chances for us to be creative, to break up long days of sitting quietly with projects and interactive elements. Each day is a brand-new experience, and an opportunity for all of us to learn from each other.

My Project

My students need basic materials for our daily projects in art class. Today we are using the items that just are not lasting. Every day a student comes up with another dead marker, or a colored pencil that will not fit in my sharpener because it is too short, or a broken crayon they cannot hold.

Markers, crayons, colored pencils, and scissors are essential products for every art room.

These new supplies will ensure that we have the quality materials to be able to create beautiful artwork for the remainder of this school year, and hopefully well into the next school year.
