My Students

I work with one of the most creative and bright groups of third graders that our town has to offer. My students come from a variety of backgrounds; within my class alone, I have representation from 5 countries around the world! Because we are located in the heart of an urban area, my students also come from a variety of socioeconomic backgrounds, even though they all live in the same zip code. Because my school is Title I, many of my students face poverty at home and make a great effort to come to school each day.

While they are diverse in every sense of the word, the one thing my kiddos have in common is that they truly love to learn.

In our classroom, students drive their own inquiries and ask questions about the world on a daily basis. They continuously wonder about topics from mathematics to reading to world cultures, and I do my best to foster their curiosity. Research is a skill especially important to my third graders as they build their independence as learners, and I am hoping to help them grow through a variety of research-driven projects this year.

My Project

These Chromebooks will change my classroom in so many ways! I will use them on a daily basis as part of my instruction by allowing students to access personally relevant and challenging academic materials in reading and math. These will help me to better reach my struggling learners, while also allowing my higher-level learners to grow and shine. In addition, these Chromebooks will help my students who need writing support by allowing them to type, which will better help them to express their ideas. Academically, all of my students will benefit from Chromebooks being added to my classroom.

On top of academic supports, these 5 Chromebooks will allow my students the chance to explore and research their questions about the world.

As an international baccalaureate school, student inquiry is so important; these supplies will give my students the opportunity to learn about what interests them, which sets them up to be lifelong and independent learners. At the end of the day, this is what I want for my students. More than academic support and more than differentiation, what I truly want is for my students to continue to love learning beyond their time in my class.
