My Project

I am requesting large sensory supports such as a crash pad in the take a break space to assist with regulation. Research has shown that having a sensory space where students can regulate and take breaks in a safe structured environment optimizes learning. Specifically, students with Individualized Education Program (IEPs) will use this space to access their education. Multiple factors may hinder students today, especially since the pandemic. As a result, many students lack coping skills to regulate which negatively affects their educational outcomes.

Help me support the future leaders, bosses, and citizens of our school succeed!

Students will be able to use this equipment and other resources to provide them with proprioceptive, tactile and vestibular input they are seeking in a safe structured manner to access their education. This space will help students with sensory processing abilities to calm their bodies. In turn, this will support their fine/visual motor, gross motor, engineering and academic skills. The space and the equipment within it will support special education students’ fine and gross motor skill development, sensory processing, and social emotional development skills. This project will increase achievement of students receiving special education services by helping them to be ready and able to learn when they are in the classroom. Education is inaccessible for students in a state of emotional dysregulation. Once regulated, students will be able to be more fully engaged in their classrooms, allowing them to access their learning.
