My students need a drying rack for their art projects, and various craft supplies such as tissue paper, feathers, oil pastels, newsprint, foam shapes, bowls, and wiggly eyes.

I teach 2nd grade at a Title 1 school in the Bay Area. 66% of our students receive free and reduced lunch. We have a high majority of English Language Learners at my school and many students come from broken and emotional homes.

I teach art on a weekly basis and doing so gives my students a creative outlet to express their feelings. It is a time where they can move around, socialize, and not worry about their academic abilities. Students are often upset when they moved onto upper grades and only do art once a month (if they're lucky). For the 2009-2010 school year, my school is cutting it's budget by 80,000. There is no money for extra items, and as we know, art, music and sports get cut.

I am asking you to donate some art supplies for craft projects we do throughout the year. My class last year depleted our stock of oil pastels, and we are in need of a drying rack for our painting projects. We need to replenish items such as tissue paper, newsprint, foam shapes, magnetic strips, Styrofoam balls, wiggly eyes, and organizational items such as bowls to put the little items in. Students create many craft projects throughout the year, for holidays and projects that go along with curriculum. Without these objects art will not be possible this year (at least not the craft side of it).

By donating these craft items, my emotional students will have an hour a week to let their mind go, relax and create something fantastic. Thank you for considering my proposal.
