My Students

Craft and project time allows kids to let their creative side out and release some tension during stressful and busy school days.

Our kindergarten class of mixed special needs and regular education students are amazingly creative students.

At our urban, low-income public school, the national push for higher standards means that students have to do more work than ever during the day. However, we always make sure to provide them with some time for fun, creativity, and stress release throughout each day- because kids need to have fun!

My Project

Both our special-needs students and our regular education students thrive off of the hands-on aspect of crafts. Crafts also provide our students with another outlet and way of communicating- art can be an easier way to communicate for our special needs students who struggle to communicate with words. For example, the play-doh set will provide for weekly play-doh centers where students can participate in imaginative play by creating anything they can dream up with their play-doh. The paint will help with many crafts throughout the year. One of our favorite painting activities celebrates diversity with beautiful rainbow painting overlaid by handprints in a multitude of skin colors using the flesh colored paper we also asked for. The feathers, googly eyes, pom-poms, foam shapes, and more will become parts of many holiday themed crafts including jack-o-lanterns, turkeys, valentines, and caterpillars.

These craft supplies will provide our students with the resources they need to have some creative fun after they've worked so hard.

Please contribute and help our students express their creative sides and get some hands-on art time in the classroom!
