Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My pre-k students are an active group of students who love making connections to stories and the world around them through art. They draw, paint, build, and decorate their creations and proudly share them with the world with the paint markers, crayons, glitter, and dot markers requested .

My students represent the diversity that is evident in the community around our school.

They come from a multiplicity of cultures and socio-economic backgrounds, and speak different languages at home. They enjoy learning new things and exploring new materials.

My Project

My students will make good use of these materials as they complete new projects related to our thematic units. They will make active choices as to what colors, textures, and details they want to add to their work, empowering them to make decisions that make their work unique. Multicultural crayons, along with glitter, dot markers, and a class set of crayons will not only help their fine motor skills, but will allow them to depict the world around them as they see it, as they add details to reading responses, explore these media in centers, or do self-portraits. Background details and features of storybook characters will become more prominent in their drawings when students have the right materials in their hands.

Giving to this project will allow my students to have greater flexibility in their self-expression and will allow them to compare different artistic media and techniques to share their vision of the world with others.

While encouraging creativity through various art media, these supplies will provide my per-k students the opportunity to explore color and texture in new ways, and help develop a life-long love of artistic endeavors.
