Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I work in a low-income middle school in Ridgewood, NY. I am an IEP teacher working with students in grades 6-8. The students have various learning abilities and many come from multi-cultural, low-income families. When we switched to remote learning in March, it became evident that on-line learning would be an added challenge for my students and their families. In an attempt to encourage them, I often send rewards and snacks via USPS and it seemed to help keep students engaged. I also sent materials so we could do group projects via Google Meets. I am hoping to help supplement my costs to continue this incentive program for this school year. In addition, when school buildings re open, students eat in the classrooms and have little time for non academic projects. I would like to complete art related projects when I supervise their lunch periods

My Project

I will be sending craft supplies to students that are fully remote and use crafts during lunch periods with students attending school in the building. Our new learning situation has taken a toll on our students.

It is so important to keep our students motivated.

Many students do not have the materials at home to create art projects. I will deliver materials to students and then we can work on projects together after completing academic projects. Fun activities that do not require constant use of the computer will hopefully help students to stay motivated.
