My students are sophomores and juniors within a rapidly growing suburban neighborhood, which is located in an historic seaport town. The school has seen an exponential increase in its enrollment over the last few years, with funds and classroom space becoming a challenge to obtain. The students in my Honors and College Prep classes are all students who are on track to attend a two or four year college upon graduation from high school. As a science teacher, it is with utmost importance that I prepare my students in every way possible to be successful in their college career, by providing them with an essential skills set within the science classroom. By incorporating an engaging, hands-on experience and opportunities to use the best equipment possible, the students are set up for success for their post-high school educational careers.
My Project
The materials that are requested for this project will be used by the students to create colorful posters and interactive notebook models in biology and biology honors to make the learning process more hands-on for the students. The new standards for biology push for STEM requirements which include interpreting data and making/manipulating models in order to enhance the level of understanding by the students.
These colorful models that the students will create and manipulate will allow them to understand difficult concepts throughout the course.
With the multiple different colors and poster-boards, the students will be able to easily visualize the working parts of the model to further their understanding of the material.
