Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

As an art teacher, one of my biggest concerns is the amount of waste that comes out of my class room. I believe that art is an essential in everyone's lives, but to what end? If we're creating at the expense of the future of the planet, who are we really serving?

For the past couple of years I've been experimenting with creating projects that rely on recycled materials as the primary medium.

While we have been able to make many artworks out of cardboard, recycled bottles, and other materials, I have struggled with balancing the focus with also creating artworks that students find meaningful.

With the requested materials, students will be able to make clocks out of recycled materials, and also create little exhibition boxes a la Joseph Cornell. I want my students to have a chance to create artworks that both help them grow as artists while also being mindful of their future on this planet.
