My Project

My classroom is organized chaos. We are always having fun while we are learning! Each day I encounter students who barely have the basic necessities, much less the materials they need for school.

Our school has a high poverty rate, with over half of our student population receiving free or reduced-price lunches.

For many students in our area, school is where they experience many "firsts" or new things. Some students have never even traveled more than 30 minutes from home. It is incredible how they can accomplish so much with so little.

I am requesting basic art supplies like colored pencils, crayons, markers, scissors, and glue. Each year my students craft an "ugly" Christmas sweater and then write an opinion essay about why their sweater should be chosen as the ugliest. Students have so much fun with this project while learning how to construct opinion essays. Students present their essays and sweaters in class, then display them in the hallway for everyone to see.
