This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My kindergarten class is in the NYC (Special Ed) District 75. My students are diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Most are on the severe end of the spectrum not having language, in diapers, and in need of constant support.

Most of my students spent their prekindergarten years learning remotely, which is very difficult for 4 year olds, especially those with a diagnosis of autism.

Developing fine motor skills is a critical skill in the development of an autistic child. During Covid, my students had no hands-on practice to develop this essential skill. They need to develop and practice to perform these essential skills they have been taught so they may work on becoming more independent.

My Project

The materials I have chosen are going to help my students who have been learning remotely during Covid. They have not had the opportunity to work on projects and crafts that they would have done if they were in the classroom. Working on these projects and craft will afford them to practice their fine motor skills, following one, two and three step directions, sensory integration and develop a sense of pride when the projects and crafts are completed. I know that these materials are going to make a big difference in my students development.
