My Students

My passion for teaching is truly enhanced when I am able to make learning a memorable and exciting experience for my students, grades K through 5. My school is one of the 270 classrooms across the New York City Department of Education that offers an inclusive program for children living with an Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Additionally, my school is categorized as a Title 1 school, "low-income, high-needs". With that being said in order to achieve academic greatness and life-long success as we stride to make sure these children are no longer at risk for widening the academic achievement gap due to their lack of available resources. These students are some of the most empathetic, smart, generous, and eager to learn individuals I have ever worked with despite the challenges they face on a daily basis.

In recent years, data published states individuals born in 2004 or later are considered the iGeneration, only aware of a world with technology.

Technology changes the way children learn and develop. In order to prepare students for life long success and future endeavors, these resource will be greatly appreciated, used and improve the quality of learning for every student.

My Project

Cracking the #CODE by providing resources for all tiers of learners is incredibly important. As a school community, I am the only Technology Teacher/Specialist teaching students in grades 3K through Fifth grade.

The ability to bring learning to life with hands-on materials, such as Wonder Labs Dash Robots, would change the ways in which my students are growing, and will continue to grow in a society of life-long learners.

Using these materials will develop a foundational knowledge of how to code. The materials such as the Wonder Workshop will be utilized when students build a more concrete understanding of how coding works. With a hands-on approach to learning, I will be able to make learning exciting, engaging, and most importantly enhance how students interact with the world as digitally literate and native citizens.

In 2015, prior New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio announced (and began) a 10 year-long initiative which stated that computer science education will be implemented throughout the entire New York City Department of Education (Public School) by 2025.

These children deserve the same job opportunities other children their ages may be given in the future. To make sure this occurs, we need to begin now and begin with a surplus of resources. Therefore, if we continue to wait and do not provide these children with the Computer Science materials they need, they will continue to fall below the academic gap. Let’s not forget, these children face obstacles regularly, but they persevere every time. In order to close the academic gap globally, it is essential that I can prepare students for their professional and academic futures. If there is one thing that we know, it is that technology is changing the way we teach, learn, and even interact with the world.
