My Students

I teach in a Title I elementary school in a suburban district. In my classroom, I have a diverse population of 16 wonderful students, many of whom come from low-income families. Each student plays a vital role in our "classroom family" and it is my goal to nurture each child's uniqueness and help each child thrive in their journey through first grade.

They are budding engineers, artists, scientists, and more!

These students deserve the best, but I need your help!

My Project

Over the past two years I have been studying the current research on the "Science of Reading" which has found that students learn to read best with explicit instruction on letter sound relationships. This included skills such as phonemic awareness and decoding letter patterns. I have eagerly implemented what I have learned into my classroom instruction and have already seen great gains in my students' reading development! One barrier to this learning is that my classroom library does not have many books that are decodable for my earliest readers. Often times there are letter sound patterns that they have not yet learned. This causes frustration and teacher dependency. I want my students to feel confident in their reading!

These books are just what my students need to independently practice the skills that they have learned with great confidence!

These books are systematic and sequential, aligning to the progression of lessons that I use with my reading groups.
