My Students

I teach 100 creative, energetic, and excited sixth grade students science each year. My students work hard and put their best effort forward every day. My students love hands-on activities and being able to talk and work through problems together. Our school is in southern Massachusetts and is an upper elementary school housing grades 4-6. The lower grades are typical elementary classrooms, where students stay with one teacher, but my students work on a middle school model and rotate classes all day. Our school is incredibly close-knit and most of the students have been in school together since Kindergarten.

My students love using their imagination, solving problems and working together to solve tasks.

We incorporate a variety of learning strategies including group work, flexible seating, and a variety of work assignments and assessments to best fit the students.

My Project

Using Breakout EDU will allow my students to review content, and curriculum in a unique and creative way! Breakout EDU kits contain boxes with a variety of locks such as directional, word, and digit locks, invisible ink and UV flashlights to read the ink to solve the clues and crack the case. Students will solve a series of clues to "breakout" of the box and solve the case.

The breakouts teach teamwork, problem-solving, critical thinking, and troubleshooting by presenting participants with challenges that ignite their natural drive to problem-solve.

Breakouts embrace the curiosity and problem-solving skills of the students. Students develop their team building skills as they engage in the learning as they work together to succeed in unlocking the box. Breakout EDU boxes allow for more participation and student engagement. Students will need to work on tasks that include math, science, ELA, social studies, music, art, and technology. Another skill worked on in this activity is the ability to effectively communicate with the group.
