Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I absolutely love how curious and eager my third-grade students are to explore the world around them. They have a natural wonder for science and a thirst for hands-on learning that brings classroom lessons to life. My students thrive when they can see, touch, and investigate the topics we study, and their enthusiasm is contagious. What makes them truly special is their creativity and ability to make connections between what they learn and their own lives. With the right resources, I know they can deepen their understanding of scientific concepts like the structure and function of animals while building critical thinking skills.

The requested materials will transform our science lessons into an engaging and interactive experience.

The habitat setup and observation tools will allow students to closely examine crayfish behavior and anatomy in a real-world context, helping them connect the functions of body parts to survival and adaptation. Laminated posters, books, and diagrams will give students a strong visual foundation, while activity kits will let them apply their learning through hands-on exploration and experiments. For example, students will use magnifying glasses to observe the details of crayfish pincers and swimmerets, then record their findings in science notebooks. We’ll also use 3D models and interactive lessons to explore how crayfish adapt to their environment, fostering discussions about animal habitats and ecosystems.

This project will not only meet learning goals like understanding structure and function but also inspire curiosity and a love of science. These resources will help my students see themselves as scientists, encouraging them to ask questions, explore answers, and collaborate with their peers. Thank you for helping me bring these transformative tools into our classroom and create a learning experience my students will never forget!
