My Project

Creating an area in the classroom for students to snuggle up to a good book will help encourage lifelong readers. Presently, students spend a lot of time on devices and there is a strong need for them to engage with a physical book. I want to create a cozy corner with a soft carpet, bookshelves including a variety of genres, and cozy pillows that will allow my fourth graders a space to read independently or with a partner.

Students who read daily perform better at school.

Research consistently suggests students who read independently have greater reading comprehension, verbal fluency and general knowledge than those who do not. In a 2016 study, students who read for pleasure were positively impacted in all academic areas.

My students would benefit greatly by having a designated space with a variety of books to create a classroom of lifelong readers.
