My Students

Our class is part of the Horizon ASD Program in New York City. It is the first of its kind in our school. The students are now in fourth grade and leading the way for future classes of the Horizon program within our school. We have various learning styles and needs. Our students are polite, happy, and eager to learn. Our location allows us to be close to the richly diverse culture of the New York City while enjoying peaceful views of frolicking deer behind the school yard.

The children especially respond to positive reinforcement.

Our reward center is built into our behavior modification system and routines. They independently monitor their goals and use the reward zone as they earn their reward time. This area and the calming area useful tools that help students be successful in class.

My Project

This project will provide cozy seating. It has 2 big and bold colored pillows for our calming down area.

This is an essential parts of an effective Horizon classroom.

Children need a place with resources to go when they need time to cool down. Each student has different needs. They may need a time away from the group or time to regain their thoughts. It should be comfortable for them to sit. In this area will also be tools to calm and cope.

The children will benefit from having a cozy corner to cool down. It will help them be ready for instructional time.
