Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Many students in our school qualify and enter our school through the Head Start Program, which is available for children who are from families with incomes below the poverty guidelines, children from homeless families, and/or families receiving public assistance. Some of the students in my classes suffer from attention deficit disorder and are ESL students (English as a Second Language) and/or have other types of special needs. Regardless of their challenges, though, the majority of the students are very determined and eager to succeed. In spite of their personal experiences, most of my students are very active, enthusiastic learners who possess a thirst for knowledge.

We need a rug and flexible seating options to create a Cozy Corner in order engage in-class STEM collaborative activities.

Hands-on STEM experiences are of paramount importance to the learning process across all areas of study. It is my goal to create a STEM activity center with a rug and flex seating in order to engage in collaborative STEM activities. Rather than teach the four disciplines as separate subjects, it is my goal to integrate them into a cohesive learning program based on real-world applications at the collaborative activity center using the materials requested. It is my goal that during the upcoming units of study, that the students have a cozy area in order to engage in interdisciplinary, collaborative, hands-on activities on a rotating basis in small groups using the materials requested. By working together in group situations my students will be able to take ownership of the subject matter. In the activity center they will develop communication and teamwork skills and work together to pool their expertise, knowledge and skills.
