Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I strive to create a classroom where my students not only learn but feel cared for, supported, and comfortable. Research shows that when students are physically comfortable, they can focus more effectively and perform better academically. That’s why I’m reaching out to you for support in creating a cozy, flexible, and nurturing learning space that fosters warmth, care, and well-being.

My students come from diverse backgrounds, and many face challenges such as food insecurity, long hours away from home, and the need for a quiet space to focus and recharge.

To support their academic and emotional needs, I would love to create a dedicated Cozy Corner in our classroom—a flexible seating couch and research area that can be used for independent reading, research, or simply a space for students to feel secure and comfortable.

A flexible seating couch that provides a comfy spot for students to gather, read, or collaborate. It will give them an inviting place to settle in, especially during independent work or small group projects.

The classroom environment plays a crucial role in how children learn, especially when considering factors such as comfort and emotional well-being. With a flexible seating couch and dedicated research space, students will have a place where they can work independently, collaborate, and take a break if needed. It will also encourage a sense of belonging and reduce anxiety for students who might otherwise feel overwhelmed in a traditional classroom setting.

The flexible seating option will allow students to choose the spot that works best for them, fostering a sense of responsibility and independence. By creating a warm, welcoming area, we’re not just meeting the academic needs of my third graders; we’re also addressing their emotional and physical needs for warmth, comfort, and care—elements that are critical for learning.
