My Project

Over the years, I have always created a cozy corner in my classroom to let my students with special needs know that there is a place for them to go to find calm moments amid the busy classroom environment. Taking these kinds of breaks encourages children (especially those with disabilities) to develop important social-emotional skills, such as self-awareness, acknowledgment of feelings, and self-soothing skills.

The overall goal of a cozy corner is to provide the child with a space in which they'll feel safe recognizing and regulating their emotions in a healthy way.

I plan to create an area that includes a mini sofa, bean bags, a rug, special lighting, and faux plants that'll last for years to come! My students will feel at home and have the best emotional health in the place where they learn and spend most of their time daily.
