This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are very curious and eager to learn. They are sweet second graders who try their best every day. My classroom consists of 31 students. Most of them are reading below grade level; therefore, I spend a lot of time working with them in groups during reading. Our school is located in a high poverty neighborhood and my classroom does not have some of the necessary resources my students need for learning.

I strongly believe that a comfortable classroom environment has a positive impact on student learning.

My Project

My students have guided reading every day. The kidney table and the chairs will be a great addition to our classroom and will help the students feel comfortable during small group instruction. It has been difficult to do this in their regular seats because our classroom is very crowded, with limited tables and chairs.

The guided reading area will allow me to work with students and help them develop skills that they can use independently during reading.

Also, the students will use the seat cushions to sit on the floor during lessons. The foam mat that I currently have is not big enough to fit all 31 students.
