My class is made up of a diverse set of backgrounds and include English language learners, special education students, and those receiving free or reduced lunches in Columbia, Maryland. Most importantly my students love coming to school, learning, and being in first grade.
My first grade students are the most imaginative and creative little human beings I've ever met!
I want my students to celebrate their differences while learning to love and embrace each other. This rug will allow us to meet and socialize while providing each student with personal space.
My Project
The classroom carpet is a common meeting place for students and the teacher. Concepts are introduced and practiced. Stories are heard. Thinking takes place. We can gather around something new and explore it together. It's that one special place where everyone feels welcome and everyone knows that something new and exciting is about to take place! The carpet is a home inside a classroom, fostering learning and creativity.
The students in my classroom will have the opportunity to have a place where they can all comfortably come together for our special time during the day.
Community is so critical in developing confident, capable learners. By having a classroom carpet, the students will have a chance to get out of their chairs and come together to learn up close and personal!
