Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach in a Title 1, urban school where most of the students receive free or reduced lunch. Our school is located in a high need part of the community and out students and families depend on the school and teachers for many diverse things.

I teach 25 bubbly second-graders who are here and ready to learn!

They love to engage in lessons and learning, and are eager to grow as readers, writers, and mathematicians. We are experiencing huge population boom in our elementary school, and therefore also a shortage in furniture for classrooms.

My Project

We spend so much time on our ratty old carpet: whole group reading and math lessons, stations, and independent reading all occur there. The carpet is right by the front board, so students sit there often in order to be close to instruction and ready to engage in discussions. A new carpet with squares would allow students to have their own individual spaces while still gathering together for whole group lessons, listening to books read aloud, working in partnerships to discuss content, and working or reading independently.

Your donation will make a huge difference in the lives of my 15 second-graders as well as the future classes I will teach!

As you can tell, our carpet has become the center of the classroom and we are in dire need of a new one!
