Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

We teach a group of amazing, curious, and hardworking general and special education students in first grade. About 60% of my students have a range of disabilities, some of which include learning disabilities, physical disabilities, emotional disturbances, speech and language impairments, and Autism Spectrum Disorder. Like any other class, our students' abilities and interests range across a wide spectrum. All of our students require individual or small group attention; each day, we incorporate all of their learning styles, interests, and special education accommodations into our lessons. Some of our students prefer visual or auditory cues for learning, while some require a more kinesthetic or tactile approach. Our students come into our classroom each day with a love of school and a desire to grow as a learner.

In first grade, a bright, colorful rug makes all the difference in a classroom!

We gather on the classroom rug for so many parts of our day - for story time, mini lessons, independent reading, math practice, and much more! We also love to use our rug to get to know one another through different social-emotional activities!

This is the perfect rug for our classroom because it has different spots that we can assign to our students, as well as reinforce colors and shapes!
