Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Why does a school counseling office feel like a hospital waiting room? The bright lights beaming hard above our heads only add to the anxiety students already feel.

Our JHCP Civics students are collaborating with the counseling department to make the office more student-friendly and comfortable.

The changes we'd like to make are making the lights dim and less overstimulating, adding fairy lights, covering the walls with student artwork, rugs, etc., and making a music playlist made by the students as we are planning to send a survey on what they want to hear when entering the student council. We are creating this so students feel more comfortable and stress-free when entering. Whether for interacting with friends or waiting for your appointment with your counselor, stepping into an environment to your preference can significantly reduce stress levels and promote mental well-being. Students developed this project during the civics service learning component of the Civics curriculum for junior year.
