Cow Eyes and Owl Spit Up Fire Up 7th Graders

Help me give my students the gift of hands-on learning. Students are so engaged when they can hold their own tools and make discoveries.

My Project

My students are excited to complete labs in science and health classes. Nothing compares to the feeling of being able to open their own cow organ or owl pellet. Students excitedly share learning with their peers and build vocabulary as they discover a new world within each dissection activity.

This semester students are leaning health and building capacity to explain the science cross cutting concept of structure and function.

The best way to provide students with evidence is through experience. As they dissect the cow eye they make claims about the value of each structure within the eye and how the structures relates to the job it completes.

We have two owls on our campus but unfortunately they have left us only two pellets so far. With your help, students will dissect lab supplied owl pellets in order to learn about our school's ecosystem. Students can compare their group's results with the that of the two locally found pellets.
