My Students

I am a Speech Language Pathologist in a New York City school. Our school has a program which provides children with Autism the opportunity to be in a small ICT class with general education students. Speech therapists use SDI (social development intervention) to help students improve social functioning. This social language curriculum is taught in small groups outside of the classroom.

In our group sessions, students have a safe space to learn about feelings and emotions and how to express them during natural social engagement.

The students love participating in movement activities that take us outside of the therapy room, giving us ample space to learn about social nuances during real life experiences.

Limited space and proper ventilation in our school building has prompted me to think outside the box!

My Project

Mobile speech therapy sessions! We will be taking our learning outside! A safe space for all!! These chairs will allow the students to social distance and breathe fresh air! Amidst the ongoing pandemic, this opportunity will keep my students safe and will put parents at ease. Why be cooped up inside when we can be outside?! Scavenger hunts, outdoor play, pretend picnics and camping trips...the list goes on. Our adventure awaits in our very large school yard! I can't thank you enough for considering the children, their safety and social development!
