Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My seventh and eighth-grade students are an exuberant bunch of teens who love to socialize and have fun. My students are diversity personified from painfully shy to audacious, from studious to silly, from spoiled to neglected, from being treasured to experiencing trauma.

The pandemic has hit my students hard: their natural exuberance has taken a hit because they are isolated from their friends and teachers.

Many of them are developing anxieties that may potentially take years to overcome. Getting back to normal can't come soon enough—we need to mitigate the learning loss and social isolation they are currently experiencing. Unfortunately, many of them have lost close family members to COVID and are struggling with grief as well.

Although I can't solve these problems, I can do my very best to provide my students with learning opportunities that will excite them and allow them to focus on better days ahead.

My Project

We want to return to school, but being scared of COVID isn't too cool. We will really need our own supplies so the germs can't spread and multiply. Scissors—we'll each need a pair because, as you know, now's not the time to share.

These Kleenex will feel so good on our noses, more than you can ever "supposes"!

In the classroom, paper towels are a must whenever a water bottle goes bust. Batteries keep our gizmos running so having a supply on hand is especially cunning. See-through masks will help the kids by making my lip movements "unhid". With Sharpies, notebooks, and this desk organizer, our classroom procedures will really be on fire. Last but not least, it would be quite odd to try and make stop-motion animations without these light-up tripods.
