Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are 5th graders, mostly English language Learners from the Bronx. The majority of them come from poor families, mostly hispanic immigrant families. They attend a Title I school in one of the poorest districts in NYC. However, regardless of these factors, my students are motivated and eager to learn everyday. They love coming to school and working collaboratively with one another other.

My Project

During these unprecedented times it is imperative that we do everything possible to keep ourselves and the children safe within the school buildings. NYC schools, especially in the Bronx, are underfunded and missing the necessary essentials to meet the safety standards that our children and school staff need.

With schools scheduled to open in September, I want to provide my students with the necessary materials needed to ensure their health and safety.

It is difficult to ask for these materials from the parents as many of them have been financially affected by the pandemic and do not have the financial means to purchase them. Providing my students with these materials would give myself, the children, the parents and the community the reassurance that we are doing all we can to keep everyone safe during these times.
