Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Remember asking yourself in math class, "Why are we learning this... I will never use it?" Well, counting and number sense is one of those things you can't live without. We use it as adults all day, every day. It is so important to give kids a very strong foundation in number sense.

I have 24 students in my class.

16 of them are English Language Learners and the majority are on free or reduced lunch. My students are from a Title One school. Many of them come from economically disadvantaged circumstances. Even though they face economic challenges, they come to school each day eager to learn new things.

My Project

I am requesting many different math manipulatives to help with counting. There are actual counters, teddy bears and chips. I am also asking for a magnetic chart that goes up to 120 that the kids and I can write on. There is also a student set that they can use along with me. A class set of Common Core Daily Math books would also be great. It is a book with daily activities that we can do as a class.

This proposal would really help my students.

It would help reinforce counting and number sense concepts that I am teaching in the class. This would allow them to be hands-on as I am teaching.
