Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Every student loves a good story and every teacher loves a book that can support learning across the curriculum. The books I have requested will help reinforce early math skills such as counting, shapes, patterns, and sorting. In addition to supporting math skills, many of these books are in both English and Spanish which benefits both my English and Spanish speaking students.

Using children’s literature to teach math allows for the development of language and mathematical skills simultaneously.

Research also has shown that children have more success learning and understanding material when it is presented in a way that is meaningful to them. Using these books will engage my students while providing opportunities for them to use their imaginations and enhance their growing abilities to think like mathematicians!
