My Students

My students have special needs like Autism, Specific Learning Disabilities and Speech and Language Impairments, among other disabilities. These students live in a tough area of South Los Angeles, where many are considered to come from very, low-income households.

My students enjoy coming to school and learning as much as they possibly can.

They put forth effort in all of their school lessons and activities. They will benefit from any materials and supplies that we can get donated through DonorsChoose.

My Project

I am requesting mini iPads so that my students may use them in small centers. They will use a variety of money, counting and financial applications to become and or reinforce their financial literacy. I will install apps ranging from counting, skip counting, identifying coins and bills, counting and knowing the value of money and a variety of coins, all will teach how to count and be responsible with money. Among others, the app, "Amazing Coin" will be installed, this app allows students to explore each coin (name, value, attributes) then it ask them to "go fish" for a nickel, or the coin that has a value of $.5 cents. My students will also be able to make presentations about a coin's attributes to share with their classmates and teach each other about money. We also need the protective cases to maintain the iPads safe for current and future students. It is important to teach the value of money and what better way than to reinforce these concepts with iPads
