Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are special because they are full of life, hope, and curiosity. They are happy and energetic although they may face set backs. The neighborhood and school are in a low social economic area. The city doesn't provide many resources for the community, so my students are grateful for anything exciting or new that they experience.

These students are caring and independent.

Throughout the day they help each other out. They work well independently and in cooperative groups.

My Project

The rekenrek will make a difference in my students' learning but providing learning experiences with hands on materials. Students will build number sense by learning how to count, add, subtract, and compose numbers. With the use the giant magnetic rekenrek, I will be able to model my thinking. We will choral count. Students will move the beads to show their thinking.

Students' learning outcomes with the use of the rekenrek will be learning strategy that will help them add and subtract within 20.

Learning base 10 strategy will help them with their math for years to come.
