My Students

Children are naturally curious. Having these exciting materials to investigate and learn about gardens and the critters that live in gardens will allow my students hands on learning experiences of their world!

The students in our pre-K classes are three, four and five year olds that have been screened and found "at risk" for development in either cognitive, language or motor areas.

Developing language/vocabulary skills is a key component to school success. Some have non-English speaking parents and many live in low-income homes with few resources.

My Project

By learning about gardens, how nutritious foods grow in gardens, and the critters that are found in gardens, my students will develop important science and math skills. The boys and girls will be able to learn about nutrition as they play the "Counting is a Snap" game which contains pictures of foods and numbers that snap together for students to match quantity to numeral. The "Measurement Center" contains life-like photos of insects to measure. My students will be able to count "Ants on Logs" and investigate real insect specimens and plant pieces with "Easy View Early Science Specimens" to learn about insects that might invade a garden and what real plants look like.

My students live in an urban environment with little if no gardening experiences.
