My Students

The materials have been chosen to include students in interactive lessons for measurement, geometry and more. The readers have been chosen to help give extra practice of sight words to students who need more reinforcement so they will not be left behind.

My students are made up of a mixture of students who speak English as a second language and students who speak English only.

As a result I need a wide range of materials that help students at all performance levels to practice new concepts but can help challenge others as well.

My Project

We have a time in class called Independent Work Time where students work in areas independently and I pull out students for small group instruction. The readers I have selected from Donors Choose will be perfect for this small group time. I have selected readers that will allow me to pull out students and practice reading sight words. I have selected math materials that will enhance teaching measurement, geometry, and counting money. Measurement is difficult to teach without hands-on materials. The geometric shapes I requested will help students learn the names of shapes from objects rather than pictures. I requested liquid measuring cups and a "measuring foot" so students can see the difference between measuring volume and length. I also requested a money counting piggy bank so students can learn the names and values of coins in a fun way.

Students need a variety of teaching methods to really understand a lesson.

This project will help students learn in a style that best suits their individual needs whether it be visual, kinesthetic or a multiple of methods.
