Help me give my students mental and emotional support, I am a counselor and am setting up my office to be a safe space for third- fifth graders, help me organize important documents, give resources for support.

My Project

How will the specific items you’re requesting make a difference in their learning?

These items will allow me to give support to students in our school dealing with both daily challenges and/ or social/emotional/developmental issues.

For example:

I have many students with anxiety the Weighted Elephant Stuffed Animal will something the kids can use to relieve anxiety, weighted blankets and stuffed animals are often used to reduce anxiety.

A rug will allow kids to lay down or sit on the floor instead of a chair to feel more comfortable in the space. The many books on my list are directly related to mental health topics but written in a way kids can understand, along with books about Hawaii where we are located. The toys including the legos, stuffies and stickers will be used to reward good behavior and hard work. The decoration will allow the office to feel more comfortable versus feeling like they are in a stuffy office. And lastly the school supplies like folders and files will be used to keep students files organized and confidential files can be stored separate.

The kids I serve in my school are youth from low income homes, transitional homes, shelters and/ or are homeless. These kids live a unique life with challenges many do not understand. I am a brand new counselor to the school and a working to create bonds and build trust with the students. These items will help me by making the space a comfortable and exciting experience.

My goal for this project is to make a safe comfortable space for students to be able to relax, destress and feel safe when talking about hard problems in their lives.
