Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I have been working at PS15 for 7 years and have had the honor of watching kids grow up before my eyes. My students, in grades PK - 5, are loving, caring and excited about the world! They are full of energy and absorb everything around them.

As a small school, I know every student and every student knows me; they know my door is always open and that I would do anything for them.

My students come from a variety of diverse backgrounds and homes. Most of my students live in shelters or temporary housing. They receive free breakfast, lunch, and "blessings" to take home in the evenings. The school has become a respite for those trapped in situations in which they have no control. I work with students, families, teachers, to create an unbiased and safe atmosphere in which students feel nurtured so they can learn and cope openly.

My Project

My students come to counseling excited to engage, but most need an outlet to express themselves. The students have goals to support their social-emotional needs that we are trying to achieve through our meetings together.

The students need books, arts, games and activities to assist them in discussing and addressing their thoughts and feelings.

One of the most essential skills in life is learning how to control our bodies and emotions. We forget that children can undergo many different feelings and experience stress as much as any adult, this is especially true now with the pandemic. Thank you for your consideration in helping my students.
