My Project

My students are a part of the NYSAA (New York State Alternate Assessment) program known as ACES.

These amazing students are a low-function population amongst the larger special education population, within a Title I school.

Many of my students, though in High School, cannot read beyond a first-grade level. For that reason, hands-on learning is a very important part of their day. They gain both life skills and academics through work study. My students have a passion for learning. This way of learning helps them to gain a better sense of life after they leave our program. Watching them thrive for upwards of 8 years can be an amazing and challenging task.

The students I teach have a love of cooking. This wonderful group of students is a part of an on-site work-study program where they learn to love to cook and the skills they need to make it happen. We are currently housed in a room that does not currently have running water. In order for us to reintroduce our program to the students and the school we would need to have access to clean water. For that reason, we are looking to purchase a water cooler and ice maker to help us reach our reopening goals. Many of my students have never had the chance to cook at home, so this program not only gives them life skills they will need for independent living but also allows them to spread their culinary taste buds. Please help make this surprise for my students happen!
